How to Use the Reproducible
Get off to a super start by teaching your little ones the school safety practices featured in this book-
let. For each child, duplicate the booklet pages and picture wheel on white construction paper and the
schoolhouse pattern on tagboard. Cut out the opening on each schoolhouse pattern; then have each
child color the top half of the pattern. Also have him color the picture wheel and the title page. Next,
ask him to draw a picture of himself demonstrating an appropriate safety practice on each page. After
each child colors his pages as he desires, have him cut out all of the booklet pieces. Then help him
attach the wheel to the schoolhouse with a brad as shown. Sequence the booklet pages behind the
title page and then staple them to the left side of the schoolhouse. To use, the child turns the wheel
so that a picture shows through the opening; then he nds and reads the corresponding page. Invite
student partners to read their books to each other. Then send the booklets home to be shared with
family members.
To reinforce school safety practices, take your little safety patrol on a walking tour of your school,
inside and out. Then encourage youngsters to share their school safety knowledge with their families.
